VESSELS
My art practice as a printmaker has always included the search for unique mark making systems. This can more easily be achieved by printing on Japanese, translucent papers and then layering and adhering these prints one over another. The end results are not absolutely predictable and often present multiple layers of unexpected yet appreciated new meanings. For this technique to be successful it is necessary to create a large and varied inventory of prints.
Printing on thin, flexible paper I have been able to permanently mold my prints over three-dimensional surfaces. I first sculpted vessel forms. At this stage the vessels appear as simply handmade, paper containers. By adding my prints as the final, exterior layer each vessel is enlivened with meaning. My prints give voice to the space within.
